Boundary-breaking farm-to-table Italian ristorante was not on my bingo card when visiting the small town of Evora (a town known for its heritage amidst the infinite farms and vineyards of Alentejo), but Tua Madre shattered all expectations by serving up food that would even knock your socks off in the heart of Rome.
The team here doesn’t play by the rules, serving pasta in a spicy bisque with raw prawns, and a mortadella bruschetta that quite literally melts in your mouth. It looks like any other Italian eatery from the outside, tucked in a cute pedestrian alley, but what you’ll find inside is anything but ordinary.
It’s a restaurant that’s so good that I’d build an entire Lunch-trip itinerary around just eating there again: Evora, with its bone chapel and medieval charm is a delightful town, but Tua Madre is even more memorable!
