The Lisbon branch of the London eatery, Gunpowder, really found its footing in the past year through it’s outstanding Curry Dinners events; a series of weekly collaborations with different Lisbon restaurants, partnering Gunpowder’s Goan cuisine with Ethiopian, Thai, and Mozambican food.
It was during this month that I grew to appreciate Gunpowder as much more than another branch of a global franchise, but an active member of Lisbon’s culinary scene; empowering small businesses by letting them take over their kitchen. Gunpowder could easily rest on its crutch of attracting well-off locals and affluent tourists, but it let four different mom and pop shops blow its clients away with blink-and-you-missed-it menus.
That’s how a London franchise makes itself the cornerstone of a local food scene!
