The hunt for the best frango assado was already a never-ending quest before foreigners decided to meddle in the investigation, but with the addition of the French-owned Guarda-Mór, this quest has basically become impossible.
Local churrasqueiras are a dime a dozen in Lisbon, and many of them are local neighborhood gems that intentionally don’t call attention to themselves, but apart from being tucked away in a quiet street corner, far from the prying eyes of tourists and random foot traffic, Guarda-Mór is a loud and proud flamboyant disco where French-infused frango assado is the name of the game.
The meat here is served with a gravy of chicken drippings, three housemade sauces, and a potato dauphinois that will absolutely knock your socks off. Top it all off with a tarte tatin (one of the best desserts in Lisbon) and you’ve got an unforgettable dinner.
