Santa Joana

Hotel restaurants rarely make the cut for any “top” list, but chef Nuno Mendes — whose Lisboeta is among the most acclaimed Portuguese restaurants in London — brings more than just fantastic cooking to Locke de Santa Joana‘s flagship restaurant.

Although the Locke hotel appears unassuming from the outside, it gives way to an enormous complex that ultimately leads you to the most beautiful restaurant in the whole city: a high-ceiling that makes room for beautiful wall art and immaculate furniture. It’s the kind of place you’d want to host your birthLunch, wedding, anniversary, and funeral.

I’m not saying that because it’s located inside of a historic convent: I’m saying it because Nuno will send you to heaven with his subversive interpretations of Portuguese staples; from his fragrant peixinhos da horta, to a steak tartare on a bed of finely shredded turnips, and a pork presa that will melt in your mouth. I’m already salivating at the thought of my next visit.
