Family-run tascas exist all across Portugal, and every local on every street — be it the city center or a dirt road across the Tagus — will tell you that the best tasca is right next to their home: Forninho Saloio.
It’s no different from the way every Italian will insist that their mother makes the best pasta.
As such, it’s almost impossible to decide which tascas do and don’t make the cut for a list like this, but few have impressed me with every single bite quite like Forninho Saloio, a mom-and-pop-and-son hole-in-the-wall. Whether it’s the perfect picanha or the flavorful black beans, there is not a false note to be found here. Will a local insist that their neighborhood tasca is better than Forninho Saloio?
Of course! But that’s tasca culture for you!
