The Michelin-guide crowned Essencial doesn’t need me to sing its praises, as it stands out in the Bairro Alto area as the only tried-and-true French restaurant in town.
Chef Andre Lança Cordeiro brings a mastery to his plates, from foie gras to slow-cooked lamb and a scarlet shrimp oven rice, but of all the plates we devoured, it was the lobster roll that most vividly struck me: juicy lobster topped with caviar, and a buttery brioche filled with mushrooms! It’s the kind of food you’d only imagine seeing in a cartoon of “perfect fine dining”, yet it’s right here in the heart of Lisbon!
It’s a divine experience made all the more unforgettable through its elegant interior design, wide open kitchen, and a selection of handmade desserts that can easily contend for the very best in town.
