Hi there, neighbors!

Have you heard the news? Mensagem is publishing stories about Lisbon in English! 😊

Our goal is to make you feel (more) at home in this beautiful town. But PLEASE NOTE: Your email is in our foreign contact database, but if you are not interested in receiving our newsletter in English, please click on the unsubscribe link at the bottom of this email.

Since we launched our English page, much has been going on around Lisbon. A new garden for everyone’s enjoyment with… a slide for adults – yes, no kiding! – a forest and a basketball court is about to open. Caracol da Penha Garden, between Arroios and Penha de França, is the result of citizens’ wish to have a green space in their neighborhood and it proves we all should be active citizens.

In Alvalade a new concept – dark kitchen – is causing a stir in the neighborhood. The dark kitchens are a space ready to host dozens of virtual restaurants, only accessible through take out platform orders. A new dark kitchen (and the owner is Travis Kalanick, the Uber co-founder) is coming to Alvalade and the residents fear that excessive traffic, noise… and the smell will disrupt their quality of life.

However, in other parts of the city, in Alcântara and Picoas, there are dark kitchens that have not caused any problems.

Have you felt the crisis in Lisbon’s public bike-sharing service – Gira? Have you noticed that many Gira docks are empty? Well, although this form of mobility is gaining more and more supporters, the investment in the company has decreased, resulting in a lack of available bicycles, since many are under maintenance.

There is a lot going on in the expat community. The new Lisboetas, are rocking in the city. Julien, a French entrepreneur, decided to reopen an old palace in Beato. Gilles, also French, chose Lisbon to continue producing music. Francesco and Paolo, two Italian musicians, decided to create a radio station to support the independent music made in Lisbon.

If you want to see these stories rolling, please send your suggestions. From now on we will try and send you a newsletter every 15 days. See you around!

Don’t forget to forward this with your contacts who might be interested 🙂
