It wasn’t even a year ago that I complained about the complete absence of New York style pizza joints in Lisbon.
Some nights, all I ever wanted was a slice to-go as I stumbled through the back alleys of Principe Real with a group of 10 friends, and funny enough, it took a Brit named Stewart to catch onto this market gap and open the ultimate “by the slice” pizzeria in the bustling late-night haunt of Cais do Sodre. With that said, you’d be remiss not to visit Palms Pizzeria with a group of 10 friends: In an ideal world, you order three of their massive 21-inch pies in order to sample all the flavors.
Personally, the meat-lovers “house pie” comes out on top, but the vegetarian options are nothing to scoff at either. It’s the kind of pizzeria that captures the New York spirit: An unassuming dive that cooks up some magic in its ovens.
