With expansive fishing lanes that stretch from the Tagus river all the way to the Azores and Madeira, it should come as no surprise that Portugal is home to some stunning sushi. Hikidashi is a proof of it.
While it’s quite easy to get roped into a formal omakase experience, it’s important to recognize sushi joints like Hikidashi; the kind of spot you go to if you’re jonesing for a top-of-the-line a la carte menu. Hikidashi reminds me of the best sushi joints I visited in Tokyo: elegantly plated juicy cuts of fish served by a friendly staff.
Hikidashi: unless you’re willing to cough up the money for an omakase menu, you won’t find better nigiri and makis elsewhere.
