Stepping through Snob Bar‘s little green door is like teleporting back to 1964; a portal that takes you into the smokey cigar-lounge elegance of a slick speakeasy for the who’s-who of the city.
During the years of Salazar’s censorious rule, Snob grew into a refuge for journalists, artists, politicians, and intellectuals; a safe haven for free conversation, ideas, and debate. My girlfriend’s favorite author José Saramago and fadista Carlos do Carmo all gathered here to express ideas, and most propably consume the famous Bife a Snob.
Today, its brass fixtures and dark green leather remain in tact so that we can all indulge in its classic spirits, mango mousse, and housemade croquettes, all while listening to live fado music to boot; making for one of the most iconic institutions in all of Lisbon.
