As the son of a Turkish mother, I was a little outraged over the dearth of Turkish restaurants in Lisbon when I first began documenting the city’s food scene. Kebab shops didn’t seem to have any Turkish ownership, not to mention the complete absence of mücver, cig köfte, börek, baklava, or dolma.
With the unexpected opening of Hind and Ersin’s Turkish-Palestinian restaurant Rumi, Cais do Sodre not only had a restaurant that offered all of these missing plates, but has spent the past months expanding its menu by permitting for a proper kebab grill and offering outdoor seating. Today, Rumi is arguably the single best bang-for-buck eatery in the entire neighborhood.
A restaurant that is best enjoyed with a large group of friends so that you can family-style a giant assortment of Turkish and Palestinian delicacies!
