It’s basically impossible for me to make a list of Lisbon’s top 101 restaurants without acknowledging Bodega Chafa, an unassuming mezcal bar that has cultivated such immense popularity within weeks of opening that it feels almost entirely trivial for me to spotlight it.
But I can’t ignore this bar for the simple reason that it just so happens to whip up the best authentic Mexican street tacos in Lisbon. Whether you want baja fish or a proper al pastor taco, every mezcalita here tastes a little better with one of these tasty snacks, and as the evening rolls around and the packed interior bleeds out onto the busy street, you begin to realize that Bodega Chafa is more than just another bar, but the latest in a spate of must-see hip haunts that attract a cool assortment of foreigners and locals.
